Ample prospects for sustainable peace building, security, social and economic empowerment and human capital development, lie in store for the people of Bakori District of Katsina Emirate following the well-deserved appointment of Mallam Garba Tukur Idris as the District Head of Bakori by His Royal Highness, the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman earlier this year, after his cousin brother was relieved of his post.

Prior to that his father Hon Dr Tukur Idris had served as the District Head for 29 years before his junior brother Àlh Sule Idris took over.

The family descended from the Iya Nadabo Fulani ruling class which administered a large expanse of domain from Bakori, Kankara, Ketare, Tsiga to Danja Districts for several decades has preserved a clean record of public service within the Katsina Emirate, right from the head of the dynasty from the precolonial period.

On his part, Makama Garba Tukur Idris has earned a name as a learned, diligent, honest, and upright gentleman in the course of his more than two decades in the public service, particularly in the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offenses Commission (ICPC) where he has served in various capacities up to his current position as the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC) in Sokoto State.

His appointment followed recommendations that were based on his sterling records of excellence in all his previous endeavours which depicts him as a true heir of his father, whose reign as the District of Bakori was marked with tremendous impact on the lives and livelihoods of his people, particularly in the areas of education, Islamic discipline, economic empowerment and advocacy for social-economic and infrastructural development in the District.

Judging from Makama Garba’s posture and track record, he would follow in these footsteps by building on this solid foundation to take Bakori District to higher levels of development.

Garba Tukur was born on 13th May 1968 in Bakori town and was educated at Nadabo Primary School, Government Day Secondary School Bakori and later Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where he bagged B.Sc Political Science in 1994 and M.Sc. International Relations and Diplomacy in the year 2000.

He is also an expert on security, policy, strategy and leadership, having attended the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) and National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

He was also a member of the Inter-Ministerial Committee of the Pension Reform Task Team in 2012 and the Presidential Committee for Winding up of SURE-P Program in 2016. Garba Tukur is also well groomed in governance, security and sustainable development in Africa, peace studies and practice, nuclear materials management, environmental management, disaster risk reduction, auctioneering and fraud examination.

Already, Malam Garba Tukur Idris, fis, is on a fast lane to the total reformation of Bakori District (Local Government Area) within less than six months of his ascension to the throne. His easy going, simple and transparent life style has attracted him to many and this has helped him to melt even the hardest rock, thus paving way for the massive support he has got.

He has so far:

* Mounted a strong advocacy for the establishment of an Open University Centre in Bakori.

* Launched a robust environmental preservation campaign particularly against the cutting down of trees which leads to desert encroachment and other environmental hazards.

*The good  relationship he has with the Government of the day has helped in bringing an intervention from the Great Green Wall project with the planting of 20,000 seedlings to form shelter belts in Bakori LGA, and a piece of land, bore hall and solar energy have already been provided for this purpose.
